Spinal and Joint Manipulation

If you’ve ever seen a chiropractor or osteopath, odds are they performed spinal or joint manipulation. Manipulation (“adjustment”) is a commonly used chiropractic and osteopathic technique, involving a controlled twist or thrust to the spine or joint. This causes the target and surrounding joints to extend slightly beyond their normal range of motion, often resulting in an audible “pop”. Chiropractors may also integrate massage, modalities, exercise, and physical rehabilitation techniques to help enhance results.

How does it reduce pain?

Manipulation works to relieve spine and joint pain by:

  • Alleviating pressure on joints
  • Reducing localized inflammation
  • Improving nerve function

Is it safe?

Chiropractic and osteopathic manipulation is a safe treatment for most patients, and has been shown to be highly effective in treating:

  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Back pain
  • Recurring musculoskeletal disorders

Will it hurt?

Most people experience little to no pain during the adjustment. Afterwards, you may experience mild to moderate soreness or aches around the treatment site. We will do all we can to make sure you stay comfortable during the adjustment.

At Blue Diamond Physical Medicine, we know that no two people are the same — that goes for spines and joints, too. We take the time to identify your unique needs and design a treatment plan that will maximize pain relief for long-lasting comfort.
